Lash Lift v Lash Extensions

lash lift is the curling, lifting and tinting of your natural lashes making them appear longer and fuller .  Eyelash extensions are individual lashes attached to your own lashes giving a longer more dramatic look .  So …. which is best?

Lash Lift

A lash lift gives a natural curl to straight lashes.  After cleansing your lashes a silicone shield is placed firmly on your eyelid and your lashes lifted and placed onto the shield.  A solution is then applied to the lashes to set them in place and hold the curl . Another solution is applied to give volume to the lashes, they are then tinted and the shield is removed.

You can choose a small, medium or large shield depending on the curl required.  Your therapist will advise you on this as it is very much dependent on the length of your natural lash.

The treatment lasts approximately one hour and your eyes must remain closed the whole time.

For 24 hours after your lash lift you must not get the lashes wet so you are unable to go swimming or use a sauna and be very careful washing hair.

After the first 24 hours you can do all you wish – including wearing mascara but this is not necessary as they look longer fuller and darker making a lash lift the perfect holiday treatment.

The lash lift requires no further maintenance and will last 6 – 8 weeks before another treatment.

You will need a patch test 48 hours prior to your treatment.

Eyelash extensions

Extensions are synthetic individual lashes or fans applied to your natural lashes.  There are various lengths and curls giving a range of looks from subtle to dramatic.  Your therapist will discuss and advise you on your requirements.

The treatment takes approximately 1 – 1 1/2 hours dependent on the fullness of your own lashes.

As the extensions are applied to your natural lash they will fall out naturally and you will need infills between 1 – 3 weeks – therefore much more maintenance and commitment is required.

You can have extensions for a special ‘one-off’ occasion and simply wait for them to fall out or return to the salon to have them professionally removed. Whatever you do – do not pick or pull them off as you will pull your own lash out with it!

You cannot wear mascara with extensions as this weakens the bonding agent causing the lashes to fall out.

So…. which is best?  It all comes down to preference but whichever you choose always remember to flutter those lashes.
